Fall is a busy time of year for all clubs and organizations at Elkhorn South, and French Club is no exception. While each year the beginning of the school year brings mixed emotions. Returning French Club members and officers are full of excitement about the new year ahead. French Club officer Sarah Shu shares her excitement about the future for French Club ahead of the new school year.

“ I love French Club because I love seeing so many people unite over a shared interest in a culture. It is touching. As someone who loves French culture, that is my favorite part of French Club,” Shu said
Similarly, “I love being able to contribute to such a warm hearted community and I love being able to share food with others. That is why I joined French Club in the first place. There is something so connecting about sharing a meal with those close to you,” Shu said.
French Club anticipates to have a lot of fun holiday themed meetings ahead in the near future including a Christmas/ Winter themed meeting, New Years vision board night, Mardi Gras feast and more!
“In the months coming up I’m so excited about building gingerbread houses and doing a Mardi Gras celebration later on this year,” Shu said.

French club has been a tradition for many years at ESHS and the returning French Club officers thoroughly enjoy planning out each meeting for new members. During a monthly officer meeting they discuss future meeting plans, and the potential snack options.
Aside from fun food and activities, French Club focuses on French cultures and not just the French language itself. Many members of the club don’t even take French class at all. Another important part of the club is the sense of community among the grades it creates. Students from different grades come together over a shared love of French foods and cuisine.
Similarly, French Club helps students see the value of learning multiple languages. In a world that is becoming more and more connected, understanding different cultures is more important than ever. By being a part of French Club students are encouraged to think beyond their own experiences and appreciate many different worldly views.
Overall, French Club is a great way to try new foods, immerse yourself in new cultures and make new friends. So don’t be hesitant next time there is a meeting to stop by and check it out!
