The girl who’s been taking over your Instagram this past week: Tate McRae. If you don’t know who Tate McRae is, she is a 22 year-old singer and dancer that is currently on her first arena tour called “The Miss Possessive Tour”. Previously, McRae has completed 4 concert tours but her current set has been the only one taking place in arenas. Due to this tour, her success is exponentially growing and expanding to new audiences across the world.
The Miss Possessive tour setlist is mostly songs from McRae’s most recent album, “So close to what?”, excluding a few of her hits and singles from the past. This album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with 137.30 million streams and 71,000 sales, while also breaking the record for the biggest debut week for a studio album by a woman ever. McRae does things differently from most singers in our time by incorporating her extensive dance background into her performances, all while empowering women and girls through her music, and clearly, it has separated her from other artists. Her tour has been named on TikTok by users, “life changing” and “eye-opening”.
McRae’s concert is mind-boggling from start to finish, with electrifying effects, powerful dancers, and high overall energy in the venue. She starts off with her song, “Miss Possessive” and ends with “I know love”. Throughout the entire show, McRae and her dancers were passionately dancing and entertaining the crowd. In my opinion, the most breathtaking part of her show was the opening of the set with “Miss Possessive” and “2 hands” because of the crazy effects, lights, and performance that her crew put on. Also, in the middle of her set, she stands on a platform that is more immersed in the audience to sing slower songs like “greenlight” and “run for the hills”. This portion of her show was awesome because I got to be so close to McRae even though my seats weren’t that close to the stage. When Tate was singing her slower songs, it highlighted how beautiful and advanced of a singer she truly is.
Her Omaha show was sold out, showing how much her popularity has grown over the years, from performing in small venues with less than 100 people, to selling out arenas in well-known cities. Due to McRae’s rise on TikTok, her authenticity and her great music, Generation Z has labeled Tate “the new biggest pop star”. This name seems fitting, for McRae’s popularity keeps growing throughout her tour and I doubt her reign will end anytime soon.
