Elkhorn South Dance Team Takes on Their First Competition of the Season

Over the past weekend, the Elkhorn South Dance Team took home second place in Class A Pom, as well as third place in Class A Jazz in their first competition this season. The competition, otherwise known as “The UNO Competition,” was held at University of Nebraska-Omaha’s Sapp Fieldhouse. Last year the competition was cancelled due to COVID-19 precautions, however this year almost every team in the state performed in at least one dance. Additionally, several mini-teams from No Limits and Nebraska Dance All Stars performed to get extra practice performing in a dance team setting.

High school teams are split into categories based on school class size and style of dance. More specifically, teams got scored from three judges who looked for technical difficulty of the dance, performance, choreography, and overall execution. Elkhorn South’s Dance Team performed in both pom and jazz, and will compete in game-day at Universal Dance Association (UDA) nationals.

Three time national champions, Millard North Dance Team won first place in both Class A Jazz and Class A Pom. Millard West Dance Team won a most deserving second place in Class A jazz. Overall, the weekend was extremely successful for all of the local dance teams and served as an amazing opportunity to practice performing each dance. UDA nationals will take place February 4-6th at the Walt Disney World Resort. Make sure to tune in!!
