Every year, Elkhorn South hosts a college fair. They bring colleges all over the nation to show students the options available in their future. The college fair happened on April 9th and many students came. I personally went and I loved learning about all the colleges and their programs. Many of them had merit based scholarships which is very effective for many students. I will definitely be applying to some of them. Many students that went were juniors but some sophomores and freshmen also came. Additionally, there were informational meetings throughout the fair. One was about college 101, another was about applying to selective schools, and the other was about what is so good about private colleges. Many of these colleges were situated in the midwest but some were from other places. The most busy table was UNL and Creighton. Most had brochures and information that helped students look more at what the college offered. It was fun to see colleges from around the nation speak and get students to hopefully apply next year.
“I came after my track practice to just look around at all the colleges that were there,” Adi Pemberton said, a junior at Elkhorn South.
“I liked how all of the colleges offered different programs and majors that I wanted to do.”
Many colleges had hundreds of majors, which was good for students to explore the many that each college offered. There were also many colleges that had an undecided major.
“I like how the Iowa University had an undecided major,” sophomore Alexis Wagner said.

A lot of the students that are just looking to make their college list bigger liked this fair because colleges weren’t hitting them with all the specifics. They just got a grasp of the many things that the colleges offer.
One thing that was cool was how Grand Canyon state university personally would fly students out for a campus visit if they applied for that school. It is a fun way to look more into college.
“I love the campus and I can’t wait to go there next year,” said senior Cassie Smith.
Many colleges advised students to go on college visits because you never know if you actually like that college until you step foot on campus. Students should be meeting with their counselors to know more about what to do. Good luck to all the juniors applying next year. Try to hopefully look at some of the colleges that came to the fair and get applying.
