Hello Upper East-siders. Gossip Girl made its way back to Netflix with even more drama than before. Created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the beloved show and its cast were rereleased to the platform in October gaining more popularity than before. The show was originally released back in 2007 and ran until 2012 for six seasons. The show follows the ‘it girl’ Serena van der Woodsen with her New York clique, Blair Waldorf, Chuck Bass, and Nate Archibald while an anonymous blogger, using the name “Gossip Girl,” publicizes the daily lives of New York’s wealthiest elites and their dark secrets. Throughout the series, Serena and Blair, best friends to enemies to frenemies to best friends at the end, get into the messiest of fights, while navigating friendship, romance, and social status. As for the identity of Gossip Girl … Well, that’s one of the show’s biggest secrets.
Gossip Girl has been the New York fans’ obsession ever since the first blast about Serena came out. They always speculated it would be one of the elite four. We would later find out that it was someone totally unexpected.
The show had a reboot in 2021 with a completely different cast. It was a flop and made the Gossip Girl fans go mad, seeing that the true show would never be bested. Since bringing back the original show in 2024, fans have been crazy about it, making tons of edits and trends of the show. For example, fans have been making TikToksabout Chuck Bass’s clothing saying how they should dress like him to be happy but have to dress another way to fit into society, as his clothing choices are sometimes interesting. He has worn red onesie tracksuits to rain boots with his fancy suit and a rainbow umbrella. There are also fan edits of chuck and blair destined for eachother and fan edits of Nate Archibald for his looks. Fans even visit the hotels and places that were featured in the show when they visit New York.
What makes this show more popular – today is that it’s been more than a decade since it came out. Older shows are making a come back – in today’s generation,Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, etc. We find this obsession of these tv shows because of nostalgia and the need to watch good tv shows that aren’t usually found in today’s world. Gossip Girl is the reason why Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, and especially Blake Lively are famous today. Blake Lively started the show at age 19 and skyrocketed from there only. After her recognition for the role as Serena van der Woodsen, Lively got her roles in The Age of Adaline, The Shallows, A Simple Favor, and the most famous and recent film, It Ends With Us. She is now happily married to Ryan Reynolds, another well known actor, and she has a net worth of about $30 million. She has been the star, inspiration, and face of hollywood. Gossip Girl really changed her life for the better.
Leighton Meester also skyrocketed from the show. She started off as a poor teen trying to find money to raise her little brother as her mom was a drug addict. She landed this spot on the show and was the perfect fit for Blair Waldorf. After the show ended, she ended up marrying another hot throbbing teen actor, Adam Brody, who played Seth Cohen in The O.C. She has a net worth of about $16 million and has landed many other movies and t.v shows.
Even if this show seems stupid in reality, it shows how silly a show is. It’s a comfort show. Personally speaking, I watched the whole show within a month non-stop everyday. I was so ready to know who Gossip Girl was; that’s why this show became so popular. The directors and producers knew that if they just made a show about some teenagers in New York, the fans would have gotten bored within the first episode. What they did was find a way to make the climax of the show be a mystery until the end and have the New York drama and secrets lead up to the big reveal.
Now here’s what the readers wanted to know. Who is Gossip Girl? Well some thought it was Serena, Blair, Chuck, or Nate, but it wasn’t any of them. There were clues and bits of information throughout the season that the viewer could have seen, but the show meticulously was set up to make the reveal as big as it was. Even though the show has ended, it has helped bring this era of comfort TV shows. And who is Gossip Girl, well that’s a secret I’ll never share.
You know you love me. XOXO, Gossip Girl.
