On March 1, Elkhorn South High School’s show choir groups competed at Grand Island Senior High, a competition located in Grand Island that featured performers from schools all over the state. It is one of the most anticipated competitions for Elkhorn South’s show choir due to their usual success in scoring and fun memories they make at the competition. This year, in an unexpected turn of events, Elkhorn South’s prep group Powersurge advanced to finals which made for their first time doing so for the season.

Powersurge’s show brings the story of Bill Nye (The Science Guy) to life! With bright blue lab coats and red dresses to simulate chemistry, the stage is full of vibrant color and peppy performers. Their show includes songs like “Weird Science” by Oingo Boingo and “The Scientist” by Coldplay. Since Powersurge is most commonly known as the freshman group, it’s truly an exciting experience for its members to have so much success in their first year.
Freshman and soloist for Powersurge Levi Cohn was ecstatic that his group that worked so hard was able to advance to finals. His first year performing for Elkhorn South Show Choir was one for the books.

“Making finals was such a fun experience for me because it was the first time in Powersurge history. It was really just a cool experience because it proved how hard we worked during our whole season. It being our second-to-last competition made it even more fulfilling” Levi Cohn, freshman, said.
Following the successful weekend at GISH, the group prepared to perform at their final home show on Thursday, February 6th. This show includes all ESHS Show Choir groups, so Shockwave and Blackout will perform along with Powersurge. The group is ready to finalize their successful season and continue to excel in years to come!
