The Grammys are an award show that millions look forward to watching every year. This can be attributed to the attendance of thousands of fan favorite celebrities at the event every year. The Grammys are meant to recognize spectacular work in the music industry, and 94 Grammys will be awarded at the 2025 Grammys. The more general field awards are the most anticipated by viewers because of how competitive they are, and the scale of celebs that are nominated for them.
The first general field is “Record Of The Year.” This award is given to the artist, album producer, recording engineer, and/or mixer, as well as, mastering engineer, if other than the artist. This is awarded for a whole album, and the award is presented to the artist, featured artist, producer, songwriter, mastering engineer, and recording engineer or mixer with significant contributions to that album. The nominees include: New Blue Sun by André 3000, COWBOY CARTER by Beyoncé, Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter, BRAT by Charli xcx, Djesse Vol. 4 by Jacob Collier, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT by Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan, and THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT by Taylor Swift.
The third general field award is “Song Of The Year”. This is awarded for a single or for one track from an album. This award goes to the songwriter who actually wrote the lyrics and/or melodies to the song. As this category gets more specific, it is arguably the most anticipated award of the night. The fourth general field award is given for “Best New Artist”. This is given to recognize the year’s most outstanding new performer. The nominees include: Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Khruangbin, Raye, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims. This is another highly anticipated award by both fans and celebs because of the importance of announcing the best new artist.
The fifth general field is Non-Classical, Producer Of The Year. This award is presented to producers who “represent consistently outstanding creativity in the area of record production”. The nominees are: Alissia, who has produced songs like “Bugs” (Jamila Woods), “DON’T MATTER” (Rae Khalil), “Honey” (BJ The Chicago Kid Featuring Chlöe), “IRREPLACEABLE (INTERLUDE)” (Rae Khalil), “IS IT WORTH IT” (Rae Khalil), “Love Takeover” (LION BABE), and “Spend The Night” (BJ The Chicago Kid, Coco Jones). Mustard, who has produced Faith Of A Mustard Seed (Mustard), “Not Like Us” (Kendrick Lamar), and “Parking Lot” (Mustard & Travis Scott). These producers have helped create all these hits in 2024, making them perfect nominees for the category.
The sixth category is Non-Classical Songwriter of the Year. This is awarded to those who have written a minimum of five songs in which they are credited ‘solely’ as a songwriter or co-writer (could be a single, track, or album). The nominees include: Jessi Alexander, who wrote many songs for both Luke Combs, Megan Moroney, and others. Amy Allen, who produced songs for Sabrina Carpenter, Koe Wetzel, and others. Edgar Barrera, who produces songs for Karol G, Peso Pluma, and others. Jessie Jo Dillon, who wrote songs for Morgan Wallen, Megan Moroney, and others. Finally, RAYE, who wrote songs for herself, along with artists like Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, and more.
All in all, this coming year’s Grammy awards are going to be packed with excitement for fans and celebs. This can be attributed to the high volume of incredible new art being dropped every month of 2024, which was not a year that disappointed in the music industry.
