Have you seen pro baton twirlers on TV? Did you know we have baton twirlers at elkhorn south? Elkhorn South has had only 1 baton twirler for a few years now, which is why she has started the twirler club at elkhorn south.
Our original twirler Ellaree Van Patton said, “We only have two members right now, me and Cora Frans, but we hope that after students see how we can participate on the field and court that we will draw more interest to a really fun activity.”
At other schools across the country, twirlers are common and a well-known extracurricular activity in school. At our school we have a shortage of twirlers, that’s why the club has been started.
“The club is brand new this year and open to anyone who wants to try their hand at a baton. Although some girls have been twirling for a long time, I’ve only been twirling for about 3.” Van Patton said.
Even if you have never twirled in your life and you’re interested you’re encouraged to try out the baton. They have been invited to perform at the football games during the pregame performance with the band, cheer team, and the dance team. The twirlers are excited to perform at the next few football games including homecoming football game on Sept. 20
Van Patton and Frans twirled their batons that had fire on the 2 ends. The entire student section watched in awe of the dazzling and daring scene. They were throwing and flipping the flaming batons high in the air and then catching them. The girls also put the middle of the batons on their necks and held the bar while it was on fire.
This was freshmen Cora Frans’ first performance and she did absolutely amazing along with Ellaree Van Patton. They awed the parents and student section. This shows how twirling can be an interesting and daring activity while performing for audiences. Twirling club is actively looking for members and it’s heavily encouraged that anyone interested can reach out and join the exciting club.
