This last weekend for the Elkhorn swim and dive team brought one of the most important meets of the season. The Elkhorn Invite hosted by the Elkhorn swim team produced many personal records, state cut times, and podium finishes from both the girls and the boy’s teams. The boy’s team finished first place overall and the girl’s team placed second.
Starting off with the girl’s relays, the 200 medley relay placed second with a new season best of 1:50.75, dropping nearly 4 seconds from their previous time. It consisted of Georgia Henderson swimming backstroke, Makenzie Peter swimming breaststroke, Bella Nordaker swimming butterfly, and Avery Waszak swimming freestyle. The second relay of the meet was the 200 freestyle relay. Georgia Henderson, Izzy Larsen, Jenna Polking, and Emme Shradar swam a 1:46.33, dropping three and a half seconds and placing third overall. The last relay of the meet consisting of Bella Nordaker, Avery Waszak, Jenna Polking, and Makenzie Peter was the 400 freestyle relay. They placed third with a time of 3:46.44, dropping 3 and a half seconds.
For the boy’s relays, the 200 medley relay placed first, dropping four and a half seconds with a time of 1:40.48. The swimmers of this event were Dylan Palmer in backstroke, Chase Robinson in breaststroke, Gavin Visser in butterfly, and Parker Nordaker in freestyle. The 200 freestyle relay also placed first, dropping three and a half seconds. It consisted of Gavin Visser, Logan O’Donnell, Chase Robinson, and Parker Nordaker producing a time of 1:31.08. Last but not least, Samir Luthra, Logan O’Donnell, Aiden Burg, and Dylan Palmer placed fourth for the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:43.19, dropping almost eight seconds.
Onto the podium finishes, Makenzie Peter placed second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breaststroke, Bella Nordaker finished second in the 50 freestyle and also second in the 100 butterfly, and Avery Waszak placed third in the 50 freestyle on the girls side. On the boy’s side, Parker Nordaker placed first in the 50 freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle, Gavin Visser placed first in the 100 butterfly and second in the 100 backstroke, Samir Luthra placed second in the 500 freestyle, and Chase Robinson finished first in the 100 breaststroke. The boys ended up with 275 points in total and the girls scored a total of 300 points. Several personal bests from various swimmers should not be overlooked.
Enzo Morello carried the weight of the Elkhorn dive team on his shoulders as he was our only diver to compete this weekend. He placed third overall with a score of 319.60, improving his previous score by 4.15 points.
Overall this weekend was extremely successful and put the team in a great position for the rest of the season. Be sure to wish the Elkhorn swim and dive team luck as they head into more important meets throughout the rest of the season, including the Millard North Invite, the Westside Invite, the Fete Fling Invite, Metro Conference, and State.
