To our readers – Issue 1
With the experience of being on staff for two years, my expectations for distribution day are sadly never too high. If it were my way, everyone in the school would want to have our fresh newspaper in their hands within the hour of distribution. However, that hasn’t been the case. This year us editors made it our mission for people to want to read. After today, I think we accomplished just that.
At the end of last year, as we were saying goodbye to our senior editors, us juniors knew we wanted to make a change. Our change was drastic yet necessary. We decided that with times changing and growing, the format of a newspaper is quickly being outed by other forms of communication. We needed to make an impact on our school community and have them interested in what we pour our hearts into. We needed a magazine.
I won’t lie, creating it was hard. This year being new editors with a new style of publication, we had a lot of doors to open that have been untouched thus far at ESHS. We had a lot of work ahead of us. With countless hours before and after school, our entire staff pulled it together. And may I say we pulled it together well.
We really wanted to revise the entire way our peers view the Storm Alert. We wanted them to want us basically. By adding tons more photos, countless more design elements, and steering more towards the student body for content, we wrangled them in. They finally wanted to read our work.
Today was one of the most rewarding days I have had in my entire life. To distribute our brand new magazines and having people come up and ask for some: that is what success feels like. After all, we make our publication for our readers. We aren’t doing our job if they never read or even know about Storm Alert. This distribution day was so reassuring in the fact that more students know and are willing to pick up our publication.
Speaking for us four editors and the rest of our staff, we could not be more grateful for all of our supporters. Not only just our sponsors, but our advisor, our administration, and for the student body for inspiration. None of our pages would be filled without each and every factor of our school.
So, thank you all again for the endless support for the staff of Storm Alert. If you all keep reading and loving it, we can promise we will put all we have in every single word published. We look forward to the upcoming issues and hope you all do as well!
