Girls Basketball

Girls basketball also had to fight some adversity this winter season. They continued to fight throughout the season to finish strong. They fought to the end in an eventual loss to Millard West in the first round of districts.

Taylor Songster and Reese Baltzell are the team’s only seniors this year who have both remained with the program for all 4 years. Head coach Terry Graver also coached his last season for Elkhorn’s South girls basketball and went out with a win at home against Grand Island on senior night.

“I am proud of the way the girls have become a real close-knit team,” said head coach Terry Graver. “They care about each other and always doing their best, making it fun to come to practice each and every day.”

Senior Taylor Songster led the Storm in points this year, leading to a very impressive season and even a big win against Lincoln Northeast. After this win, the girls play really started to show as they finished the last 11 games with a 7-4 record.

“Throughout the year, we have really come together and learned to play as a team, by trusting each and relying on each other to give their all every minute,” Taylor Songster said. “It’ll be exciting in the future to come back and watch the underclassmen play at a high level.”

Everyone here at Elkhorn South would like to thank coach Terry Graver for his amazing career coaching softball and girls basketball. Earlier this year, he retired coaching the Storm softball team and now he has done the same with girls basketball. He has given his all to Elkhorn South women’s athletic programs and put hundreds of high schoolers
