It has been a good year for the Storm in terms of improvement from last year. 8 wrestlers this year qualified for the state tournament and for the first time ever they were named Class A team of the week.

The program leaves behind three of its talented seniors in Noah White, Nick Groth, and DJ Schuman. All three have provided the wrestling team with unmatched leadership and a strong work ethic during meets and practices.

“The thing that I will remember most about this team is that they are the beginning of a wrestling legacy here at Elkhorn South” said coach Michael Bressler. “They made a commitment and stuck to it, working hard every single practice.”

Senior Nick Groth has been with the program for all four years of his high school career and given countless hours of dedication to this sport. He qualified for the state tournament this year and was one of the teams most consistent wrestlers throughout the season.

“One of my proudest moments was qualifying for the state tourament this year as a senior,” Nick Groth said. “We won a very close dual against Millard North which won us the Lincoln Northeast tournament, we have improved in all aspects of our wrestling.”

Depth will be no issue for the Storm as they return most of their core roster besides the graduating seniors. With three of their top wrestlers gone, coach Bressler will have to look for a group of underclassmen to step into the leadership role for the upcoming years.

“The future is bright for ESHS wrestling,” said Bressler. “It will be intresting next year as I think competition for starting positions will be fierce and provide us with depth.”

Make sure to keep an eye on the Storm wrestling program as they look to be a contending team in Class A for the foreseeable future!
